Promoting innovation in the banking sector

On 14 May 2015, under the auspices of the Minister of State for Innovation and Public Administration, Ms. Milena Harito, and the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr. Gent Sejko, an activity was organised at the Bank of Albania premises on promoting Innovation in the banking sector with representatives from the Bank of Albania, the banking sector, and non-bank financial institutions. 

This activity was organised in the framework of the Innovation Week 2015, which is held for the second consecutive year. The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania Ms. Elisabeta Gjoni made the opening address, followed by Minister Harito and Chairman of the Board of the Albanian Association of Banks, Mr. Christian Canacaris.

The activity aimed at promoting new technologies that the banking sector applies in providing services and products to customers. This sector pays special attention to technological innovation and spearheads the adoption and implementation of new technologies to enhance the quality of its customer services.

After presentations made by commercial banks, a memorandum of understanding was signed between ALEAT and Societe Generale Albania. Following the application of a new technology implemented by ALEAT in some banks, now ID cards may be used for providing banking services to Albanian citizens.
